The veteran Tomás Luis de Victoria Choir, one of the flagships of the choral scene of Granada, offers us an interesting programme whose guiding thread is based on the figure of Mary and how the beautiful texts of the Song of Songs are reinterpreted in the light of her influence. Tomás Luis de Victoria Choir
The Tomás Luis de Victoria Choir of Granada was founded in 1997 with the aim of recovering, performing and disseminating Renaissance and Baroque music, with a special focus on Spanish music. Its members have extensive experience in early music, the result of having taken specialisation courses with internationally renowned conductors, including Lluís Vilamajó, Michael Noone, Harry Christophers, Peter Philips and Gabriel Garrido.
Throughout its more than twenty-five-year history, the ensemble has participated in the celebrations of the anniversaries of personalities of the Renaissance era, such as Philip II of Spain, Francisco Guerrero, Isabella the Catholic, Tomás Luis de Victoria and Saint Teresa of Jesus. Also notable are its participation in the 4th Festival of Sacred Music of Rome and Vatican City 2008, the 48th edition of the prestigious international Seghizzi competition (part of the European Grand Prix), in Gorizia (Italy) in 2009; the commemoration of the fourth centenary of Tomás Luis de Victoria with concerts in St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna and at the Festival of Sacred Music of St. Peterskirche (Vienna) in 2011; the 61st Granada Festival in 2012, conducted by Lluís Vilamajó, and the Renaissance and Baroque Music Festival of Vélez Blanco, where they presented a recovery in modern times of Spanish composers such as Sebastián Durón, José de Torres and Antonio Literes. The choir has also performed at numerous festivals and events, such as the FEX, the International Music and Dance Festival of the City of Úbeda and the Early Music Festival of Úbeda and Baeza in different editions, among others. The choir is an active part of Granada's musical life and has performed for various institutions, such as the University of Granada, the City Council, the Archbishopric, the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and Juventudes Musicales.
The choir also collaborates with various instrumental and vocal groups, including Ensemble La Danserye, Zenobia Scholars, Íliber Ensemble and El Parnaso Español. It has made recordings for the Spanish National Radio (RNE), and has participated in the recording of the CD of Spanish polyphony Sacra et Profana with the Microrec record label.
