GONZALO ROLDÁN
Soundscapes of Granada Cathedral

Notes /

Granada Cathedral, the first Renaissance church in Spain, encompasses a rich sonic universe that has accompanied its history since the 16th century. In this lecture, Gonzalo Roldán focuses on the study of these soundscapes, understood as the result of the interaction between architecture, liturgy, and musical practice. Through the analysis of documentary and musical sources, the lecture will explore how the very sonority of the temple helped shape specific forms of musical creation and reception. The aim is to offer a comprehensive vision of the Cathedral as a living space, where music and sound were an essential part of its cultural and spiritual identity.
